Featured Hike: Cedar Run

Whiteoak Canyon parking area, Syria, VA

It’s hot out there! And we have the perfect remedy: in partnership with Wild Virginia, the Shenandoah National Park Trust will be hiking to a waterfall, a swimming hole and a natural water slide.

From the Whiteoak Canyon parking area in Syria, VA, we will hike up the Whiteoak Canyon Trail for about a mile to the Cedar Run/Whiteoak Link Trail. After a river crossing and a short hike, we’ll approach CedarRunFalls and a swimming hole—which we’ll take advantage of on our way back! The trail becomes quite steep from here. In another half-mile, we’ll reach a natural water slide—which we will enjoy! We’ll eat our lunch on the rocks and then head back down the trail to the big pool we passed earlier. After cooling off, we’ll return to the Parking Area.

Please make sure to hike these wonderful water features safely. Cedar Run is quite steep and hiking poles are recommended. Water shoes or hiking shoes that can get wet are advisable. The hike is about 5 miles. Melanie Perl will be our guide.

Space is limited and registration is required by emailing Julie Shuren at jshuren@snptrust.org or calling 434-293-2728.
