Mount Vernon Emergency Stabilization Plan

This iron furnace may have supplied iron ore to James Madison’s iron works in the 18th century, making it one of the most significant historic features in the park, worthy of a unique interpretive program. However, the structure is deteriorating and in need of emergency stabilization.

The Shenandoah National Park Trust provided a grant to support the creation of an emergency stabilization plan for the furnace.
