Native plant propagation is labor-intensive work. It requires identifying desirable native species, collecting seeds from them, germinating them in the park’s nursery and then hand-planting them. The park lacks the staffing to keep pace with this work. Currently, park staff are working in the nursery after hours and on their time off, which is not sustainable. The park would like to hire a seasonal employee for three years who will focus exclusively on native species restoration, from spring 2014 through fall 2016.
