How to help pass the Great American Outdoors Act

The Shenandoah National Park Trust supports the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act. This new law will provide much relief for national parks.

Wondering what the Great American Outdoors Act will help fund if passed?

Here is an NPS infrastructure factsheet for every park unit. CLICK HERE to see the deferred maintenance projects that COULD be undertaken if the Great American Outdoors Act were enacted. Find Shenandoah National Park to see what projects could be funded.

Once we know how much Shenandoah National Park will receive and what projects it will help fund, we will work with our park colleagues to determine how your philanthropy can add to these monies to bring even greater results for the park we all love.

*Important to Note*

The GAOA will take care of bringing us up to current deficit needs. But none of this money will fund our programs through Shenandoah National Park Trust. So we still need your help to fund everything that SNP Trust offers our park in terms of programming, research, education, and more.

What happens next?

The bill passed the Senate and now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration. This bill would establish the National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Fund, which directs up to $9.5 billion over five years to address priority repairs in national parks and other public lands. Also, the bill will reserve $900 million per year for the Land and Water Conservation Fund

Here are a few things you can do while U.S. Representatives will be home in their congressional districts:

  • Social media outreach, amplification of S. 3422/H.R. 7092 (see benefits below)
  • Calls, emails, and other virtual advocacy with your family, friends, and others who enjoy our wild places across the country.
