Hi, my name is Anna, and I was the Communications & Social Media Intern at SNPT this fall. As a Government major with an interest in nonprofit work and a genuine passion for marketing and communications, I knew this internship would be a perfect fit! What I didn’t expect was just how much I would learn through the projects, people, and mission-driven environment that shaped my experience.
Throughout the semester, I gained firsthand experience working in an office setting. Learning how to communicate efficiently and collaborate with different coworkers helped me become more confident asking questions, offering ideas, and taking initiative. A large part of my work focused on strengthening SNPT’s digital presence. I helped make improvements across social media platforms, like Instagram and YouTube, with a focus on creating visual and narrative consistency. I built graphics, short-form video content, and highlight covers that aligned with SNPT’s tone and style.
I also spent time learning new tools and workflows that made my content creation more efficient and effective. Platforms like Hootsuite and WordPress allowed me to draft, edit, schedule, and publish posts while better understanding broader content strategy. These tools helped me think more intentionally about timing and audience engagement. I also supported the promotion of major events, including Giving Tuesday and the Banff Film Festival, by creating short-form videos and branded graphics that helped drive awareness and excitement.
As my internship comes to an end, I am grateful for how meaningful my time at SNPT has been. I developed tangible skills in marketing, design, and communications, and I would like to thank my supervisors Emily Chiles and Lee Tookes for helping me along the way. I’m looking forward to taking these skills into the next chapter of my professional life.
